There have been and are a few models with macro focus lenses. Since teh vast majority of pictures taken with camera phones do not require the macro focus lenses, the cost of adding a macro focus lens/value trade off to the consumers (or additional revenue stream to the carriers from PWC transcations) has not rached the tipping point for the manufacturers and carriers to make the additional investment.

I believe that the initial market test was a mechanical switching of the lens. I have heard of a liquid filled lens that can change shape and focal point by applying an electrical charge to the lens. It will take some big technology advance and market driver to get macro focus lenses put into phones as the standard IMHO.
