First of all to upgrade the grid will cost up to $200 million and take 3 years (PSNH's estimate). When the new power line was built behind our house a few years ago, not one worker was from NH. A powerline construction firm from Georgia was hired to built it.
Secondly the view from Berlin is better than any view from Gorham or Conway.
You know absolutely nothing about Whitefield Power. They have been operating right up until recently and they have been shut down due to lack of fuel.
Your paragraph on wind power is meaningless. The Noble project is getting built and will be the first on line. Noble is spending $10 million to upgrade the lines to 100 mw. and has just filed their application to FSEC something Laidlaw has not been able to do.
With the cost of fuel being so high and the large number of biomass plants in the south why in hell would someone ship something that is only worth $30 a ton 2,000 miles to NH?
Industry is never coming back to Berlin hiring thousands of people like it did when Brown Paper was in town. Industry will build close to a port like Boston to keep shipping costs down where they also have a huge population of workers to hire. Sorry to say Berlins future is tied to tourism with a smattering of small industry.
