lango: force-tethered?

I prefer the term "integrated". The monitor and original G4 are still in service as a file server.

Don't see how that helps much. If your monitor goes, the port goes with it, as does the computer. You're still out the PC.

If your "port goes", so goes your tower case. Hunh?

True, for those working in a thin-client setting, it's no loss. Of course, not all of us work in that sort of environment. In fact, I'd say that's a pretty small minority of people buying iMacs.

I offered the thin-client anecdote as a rebuttal to your point about physicians with data that must be encrypted.

...But there's no excuse, IMO, to sell someone a $2,000 desktop PC/monitor that the user cannot easily upgrade the hard drive and optical drive. Unless, of course, the entity doing the selling profits from artificially forced obsolescence.

I think there's a much better chance statistically that you'll find the processor lacking before you have any serious issues with the screen. The HD could go, but it's less than a half hour in the shop to swap one out. If you want more capacity add an external.

I'm also not in love with being "straitjacketed" into a noisier case, cables/extension cables, and crawling under desks.

But to each his own.
