Hi Spence and thanks for the info on past post.
You seem to be rather knowledgeable about the issues in Berlin and you referred to this article in a post. Forgive my ignorance or inability to clearly understand it;
http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080716/FRONTPAGE/807160307
I find the following sections confusing. Can you walk me through it?
Section 1
"Laidlaw really seems intent on going through with this, regardless of whether the city of Berlin wants it or not," said City Councilor Mark Evans, who said he is neither for nor against the plant. "To a certain extent, that's the company's right. A city only has a limited amount of input. We can't just roadblock it in the permitting process."

First I take from Mr. Evans's quote in the article you post
A.) he feels LLEG is going to go through with the plan and the city has little input into LLEG's decision to do so and also feels LLEG has the right to do so.
B) Mr. Evans maintains the city can't stop the process.
Are you saying he is wrong? If so can you tell me specifically and directly why, IYO of course?

Section 2
"The problem that Berlin has had for so many years is we've had so many of our eggs in the same basket," Bertrand said. "Everybody's kind of watching and waiting. They continue to say they are close to closing sale of the deal for the property. We'd like to see if any other mixed use proposals come along."
I find the mayors remarks confusing also when using your reasoning.
Although it's the first plan that's been proposed for the site, Bertrand said the city has been approached by several energy developers, one of which, Clean Power Development of Concord, is proposing a smaller wood-burning plant on the outskirts of the city.

I interpret the Mayor as saying;
A) They (the city) is "kind of watching and waiting," which I take to mean he and the city is watching to see if LLEG is serious.
B) The mayor is hoping with, according to BNH, within 14 days, another entity is going to come along with a plan for the site as well as the desire, ability and funds for same.
I know you bring up Clean Power, Noble etc. but the way I understand it is that they (the heavy hitters the opposition has referred to in the past and present) are not looking at the same piece of land LLEG is.( plant on the outskirts of the city. )
This being the case or my understanding of the issue, I ask you, what are some or all of the alternate plans for the actual piece of land, in the middle of the city, LLEG is persuading?
One last question, I have read many times, on numerous blogs, the opposition describing the land as “the most valuable piece of real state in the north country” (It will take me a while to find the quote and author as there are many blogs by the same people out there) as well as other quotes about the huge value of the land. Why do you think it would not be profitable for anyone but the city to enjoy such an asset? I know this is a silly example but I wouldn’t be surprised to see state or federal grant monies go to an entity if they paved the land and used it for something like, an area for volunteers to work with inmates during rehabilitation/recreation.
Point is the opposition is making it seem that unless everything happens according to the letter, there is no value here. Correct?
Last if there are so many other alternatives with much better chance for success, why are people still posting as if they are still fighting a fight they portray as having already won?
TIA,
Nez
