This was the subject of much debate some time ago. I am no a Marketing expert, but had a few thoughts. A "uWink" franchise would likely differ from other ones, because the whole idea of a franchise is that it is similar everywhere, thereby protecting brand identity. I would bet that there are potential customers of uWink technology that will not want the whole package. They may already have existing technology that is similar or does the job, yet they want gaming, for example. uWink would be forced to compromise on their vision. Such is the nature of technology is that it is difficult to keep it identical across applications.So how does uWink remain identifiable and retain the brand? An interesting question. These 3 stores support the notion that they are mere platforms for future sales of different types, of various components of the technology. So then what would future "uWink franchise" look like? What would be the minimum they have to buy to put uWink on the door? I don't really know.
