Agbami: One of Nigeria's Largest Finds (good read)

ChevronTexaco's Agbami Field, which is due onstream in 2008, is a giant discovery off Nigeria.

The Agbami-1 well encountered 128 m of oil pay in multiple zones. Agbami-2 encountered 163 m of pay in five separate oil-bearing zones, one of which flowed at a maximum rate of 10,000 b/d with a wellhead pressure of 2,200 psi.

In 2001 the operator completed appraisal drilling. The successful four-well appraisal program confirmed that the Agbami structure has potential recoverable reserves of 1 Bboe, which ranked among the largest single finds to date in deepwater West Africa. The structure spans an area of 45,000 acres and extends from Block 216 into Block 217 in water depths of approximately 2,000 m (6,500 ft).

In 2005 ChevronTexaco chose FMC Technologies to supply subsea systems for the Agbami project. The contract with Star Deep Water Petroleum Ltd., an affiliate of ChevronTexaco Corp., has a value of approximately $276 million in revenue to FMC Technologies.

Production will flow from the dry tree unit to the FPSO for processing. The operator expects 37 wells will be necessary to fully exploit the field.

FMC Technologies’ initial scope of supply for the Agbami project included subsea trees and associated structures, manifolds, suction piles, subsea distribution, topsides controls, flying leads, and jumper connection systems. FMC Technologies also will provide project management, system engineering, quality assurance and control and building of a Subsea Service base in Nigeria to support installation and life of field activities. Deliveries began in Q3 2006 and will be completed over a multi-year period.

Agbami marks FMC Houston’s first project to be executed in Nigeria. FMC will manufacture 12 manifolds and suction piles in Nigeria, transfer significant technology and skills to Nigeria with training and development of local personnel in engineering and management disciplines, and carry out sub supplier and supply chain development within Nigeria.

Chevron operates the field with 45%, followed by partners Statoil 35%, NNPC 15%, and Petrobras 5%.
