Its not easy to trade 100,000 shares at any price. At sub-penny its expensive broker fee wise. A RS split will still leave the capitalization about the same, as they sell more shares to pay for mainly salaries the share price will erode accordingly. It does buy time, but the window of opportunity doesn't remain open for a given technology for long. Good decisions by management have been scarce and the next poor decision could just be fatal.
