Strong, there is a Dale Carnegie principle that says if you get someone to agree with you on a few statements, they will follow positively on the next/rest of the statements.

Extrapolate that to a group of people who really want to think positively (whether foolishly or not), get enough people in the right frame of mind and the rest will follow.

Maybe that principle is being exercised. Think?
