gobbling more oil is not an energy policy. it is like going back and remarrying an ex-wife.
things will never be the same between the oil patch and us.

it's time to move on, and show how tough we are by becoming energy independent instead of bombing swarthy peasants that smell bad. some extra drilling might be needed in the interim, but it cannot be pawned off as a solution, because it isn't. at most a stop-gap measure.

cuzz trading yankee ingenuity for arab oil was a Hobson's choice in the first place. now they want the bad noisemakers that we have, and nuclear carpet-riders make for nervous neighbors. Sooner or later, they all want the big-boy toys. We need to cut them off of their role in the world stage and let the chinese and indians fight over them, good riddance.

The only real way to do that is to develop a way around oil. And putting it off ain't gonna help.
