There seems to be a miss perception on FAA certification. Equipment does not get certified per se. An Aircraft type and model with a defined set of equipment receives certification to engage in certain FAA operations, such as low visibility take off and landing under certain defined conditions. EVS itself is not approved for anything. The aircraft is approved (pilot must meet certain conditions) for an FAA designed operation. When EVS is put on a different aircraft, FAA approval is back to square 1. If there exist equipment commonalty to bridge back to an FAA certified configuration, the process becomes easier. The effort of Gulfstream to move the certification from the original G-V & G-IV EVS configuration greatly assisted them in achieving a much simpler approval cycle.
