They should announce that they have abandoned it when they have not announced that they have embraced it? While Dew is correct that they wouldn't have asked for the authority did they not intend to use it, to announce that it wasn't going to happen would be the same as saying the firm would rather trade pink. That would materially impair trading liquidity, not only weighing thereby on pps but also directly injuring shareholders and adding to the Mr. Market's clear impression that management is not shareholder-friendly.
It would also accentuate the appearance that they don't know what they are doing, which would not help pps.
