The award was presented by Unified Communications magazine based on MIC’s architectural innovation and unique features, according to TMC president Rich Tehrani.

“MIC’s scalable, standards-based architecture gives organizations a cost-effective migration path from legacy voice mail systems to next-generation messaging capabilities,” Tehrani said. “Combined with its single message store and unique capability for deploying multiple UC applications on the same port and on the same platform, MIC gives large organizations one of the most affordable, flexible, and easy-to-manage system on the market.”

Interactive Intelligence first released Messaging Interaction Center™ (MIC) in 2001 as a standards-based software platform providing voice mail replacement, unified messaging and enhanced messaging as part of a unified communications strategy for large and distributed organizations, including higher education institutions.

Features include presence management, one-number find-me/follow-me, unified messaging, conferencing, and speech-enabled mobile access to e-mail, calendar and contacts. Universal user access includes desktop, mobile and smart phones, and e-mail clients and Web browsers.

MIC’s N+1 architecture can scale up to hundreds of thousands of users. Deployments can be configured for centralized or decentralized architectures with built-in fault tolerance as part of a business continuity strategy.

MIC also provides integration with existing switches (PBXs, IP PBXs, key systems); voice mail and e-mail platforms using session initiation protocol; media gateways; legacy networking protocols; and application programming interfaces. Among the many integrations available with MIC are Microsoft Exchange Server, IBM Lotus Notes and Sun iPlanet Messaging Server.

Now in its ninth year, the TMC Labs Innovation Awards were designed to honor the best vendors across a range of product and service types, including testing tools, applications and media servers, phones, and more. The TMC Labs Innovation Awards selection process requires a proven “first-to-market” approach. Among the dozens of TMC Labs Innovation Award applicants this year, only 16 were selected for an award.
