The purpose here should be obvious.

Hector Ruiz will turn 65 on Dec. 25, 2010 - and will face mandatory retirement before this trial is ever concluded.

He will be gone - and his successor - probably Dirk Meyer - will be saddled with the loss of this law suit.

Hector is looking out for Hector.

He'll probably pay himself $50 million between now and then for his superb performance.
