Don't know if everyone remembers "Turbo" buttons, but we had them for quite a while.
sure do! LOL. Good story. More than one time we have brought pizza in because we were working hot projects or fixing a big problem and couldn't get out for food.
I had a similar experience when I first started at the company I'm working for now... although I can't claim having any expertise, just a bit of luck. The office was very small then... about 5 people. Anyway, they had Netware 3.11 running on a small server. One day it crashed and we all went in to look at it... I looked at the person who had hired me and she had this blank look and I then knew nobody had any clue what to do. So I read the error message on the screen, grabbed the manual and looked it up. It basically said "do a vrepair"... so I looked up how to do that and did one... voila, it was up and running again. Guess who became the network, desktop support person for the next couple years (on top of programmer and other misc stuff of course). Scary story huh? But it shows, like yours did, how many shops just don't have anyone internal that's knowledgeable enough to run things properly.
