I already ripped some CDs to lossless they come out as m4a files, so I am not clear what they will play on, but assume QT will be necessary, unless there are other MP players that do mpeg4.
I send an AAC-encoded file to a Wintel user who renamed it .mp4 and it was recognized by his player. If the Apple Lossless Encoder is readable as MP4, then it should be a widely accessible file format.
What are the file size changes going from AAC to ALE?
