I doubt that is the case, but either way, someone made an expensive / overdue exit by trade costs alone.

Interest is created by appreciating the value. MMs would do us all a favor by running this up. Of course, they need some help from the company. It is hard to fabricate value, especially if the head of the company is so damn lazy that he can't even get a small loan. Fairly bad for a business that is supposed to be a lender. The market is full of dumb people, but they eventually figure out the real /working value.
