And I would argue that as gas prices are getting higer, even a 2% increase becomes more and more attractive.

IMO most people are looking for ANY way to save money on fuel these days, and taking advantage of them. Why not swap out a muffler that will give you a PERMANENT savings at the pump.

All the other factors, like clogged air filter, tire pressure, driving conditions, etc... are TEMPORARY and must be constantly maintained to see the fuel savings.
