US investors should be aware that EFR.TO is classified as a PFIC or Passive Foreign Investment Company. There are instructions on the web site in regard to the Form 8621 that must be filed with the IRS. Failure to file and elect the QEF or mark to market option could potentially result in severe tax consequences down the road. This is an important consideration. I didn't know about it until after I was a shareholder, so it's kind of a moot point. I am trying to figure out how many of my other juniors could also be classified this way. So far, it looks like almost all of them are potentially PFICs. Lovely.
