HiENERGY DEMONSTRATES SECURITY TECH IN SPAIN

IRVINE - 12/13/03 - A management-level delegation from Southern California-based HiEnergy Technologies Inc. (HIET) recently visited Spain to meet with officials of that country's General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism.

The meeting was held in Barcelona - a city that sadly is seen by many as one of the most "terrorized" in Europe.

This year alone, Barcelona experienced 1,023 bomb threats A full 10% of those threats were genuine and involved real explosive devices, half of which actually detonated.

After an exhibition of the Directorate's robotic bomb disposal equipment in action, HIET demonstrated its new, portable "Stoichiometer" system for detecting unexploded ordinance (UXO).

The system was unveiled earlier this year during field tests for the US Navy - tests it passed with 100% accuracy, according to a company spokesman.

The "Stoichiometer" device is simpler, lighter, and cheaper than its earlier "CarBomb Finder," which the company developed for the Spanish Aviation Security Agency for an upcoming test in Madrid International Airport early next year.

The visit to Barcelona resulted in a decision by the Spanish government to ask HiEnergy to bring the new UXO detector to Spain at the same it was scheduled to demonstrate the CarBomb Finder for its demonstration for General Directorate's Counter-Terrorism Police.

Following that demonstration, a member of the Counter-Terrorism Police's Technical Squad is scheduled to travel to HiEnergy's test site in Southern California for three weeks of training.

According to industry sources, the company is developing systems that have applications in several markets, including airport security screening, bio-weapons detection, landmine detection, contraband detection, and chemical and petrochemical industry applications.

HIET's technology has been developed under several research grants from the US Department of Defense and US Customs.

I never saw this before. I always thought that they haven't gone to Spain at all.
