when you said you couldn't understand why people who knew the stock market weren't millionaires by middle age.

I understand bear markets, but they don't last for more than 2 or 3 years anymore. The 1970s was the last long bear market. When you have 20 years to do it, it should be possible. If not from the stock market, then from your 401k at your job. If you have a decent job with a company that gives stock (some companies even match stock), then I see no reason why not. It was just my opinion on to where an INTELLIGENT person should be. If your not at that point, it doesn't mean your not intelligent, money just may not be as important to you. And there is nothing wrong with that.
