OT ... You're the self-styled writer and wordsmith, whitemanfromtown. So to draw on another area of your expertise (besides math and weather forecating):

Tell me, how does one spell cylinder, that thing that's a piston engine in cars and the like ... you know, that word that's also often used in cliches, like "firing on all ~" ... is it spelled as above (cylinder), or cylindar with an a?

I've always been confused about that and my dictionary's across the room so I thought you might help me.
