Why cannot Valimed do this??

I'll hazard a guess or three ... because:

1/ they don't have the knowhow to develop a technology that does anything remarkable
2/ they can't attract the interest of significant money (partly because of 1/)
3/ they don't really want to; their only real interest is, and has been since back in the daze of the late '90s and early '00s, making money for themselves and their friends/family

In that they've succeeded. Gotta give malc credit for orchestrating the whole thing.
