Re: Gay Rights

My first post here in lots and lots of months... and so many of the topics here are so interesting...

Ok, so I was raeding some story earlier about Gay rights, when it hit me that, as diverse as our group is,
I don't think we have any Gay ppl in the mix. Well, at least no one that has shared that information.
Anyways, I realized that I really don't know whee everyone stands on gay rights. Like, who supports Gay
marriages, benifits, or adoptions? I personally think that a person rasing a child they love beats growing
up alone with no one any day.

I support gay marriages, benefits and adoptions. Wholeheartedly. Although it's really a basic question of equality, I also admit to some personal bias on the issue. It is a commonly stated fallacy that gay people do not form long-lasting, loving relationships; and we are apparently in agreement that love is what matters above conventionality in a union which nurtures a child. As far as gay benefits, that really seems obvious. Why should the person you add to your health insurance be required to have contrasting genitals to yours? Is that really so fundamentally different from a typical hetero couple who has decided to never reproduce? (They aren't using their gonads, so it's effectively the same as not having the 'correct' complementary ones. ) And - in a case where same-sex benefits are denied, I wonder what the answer would be to a transexual? Now that we've managed to blur gender lines, restrictions like that seem so baseless.
