The Nextel Wireless Broadband Network Trial

P611,

<< NEXTEL is following it's own path, rolling out OFDM >>

I regret to inform you that Nextel is NOT "rolling out OFDM."

Nextel is commercially trialing Flarion's Flash-OFDM in Raleigh/Durham NC ...

... and they have announced no plans beyond this trial.

Here's the breaking news, just in:

"Nextel will now begin accepting paying customers for its high-speed service using Flarion's Flash-OFDM as an extension of its recently launched wireless broadband network trial and will expand the coverage and scope of its wireless broadband network trial, which was initially offered in the Raleigh, N.C., market, to now cover approximately 1,300 square miles, including Durham, Chapel Hill and other neighboring communities."

Broadband Wireless "Rollouts?"

Nation wide. Already started in a fully funded $Billion+ Verizon roll out of Qualcomm's 1xEV-DO. The trial phase in DC/San Diego, that is similar to what Nextel is now involved with in Raleigh/Durham, is long since behind Verizon Wireless. They are now "rolling out."

And here's the GREAT part ...

... this is commercially proven, and fully standardized technology and while the rollout is in progress hybrid handover to CDMA2000 1xRTT, which Verizon has already rolled out nationwide, will allow seamless handover from 1xEV-DO to 1xRTT while in a data session under full vehicular mobility - even before the nationwide rollout is complete and 1xEV-DO is not yet implemented.

Cool, eh?

Has the Nextel's WiDEN rollout even started yet?

Y'all have a great Qualcomm Day,

- Eric -
