Rick Menell, Chairman of Bateman Engineering, commenting on the results, said:
“During the six month period under review, the majority of our business units performed well, with the exception of our Indian operation, whose performance has negatively impacted the
overall half year financial results. Noting the corrective measures and the provisions made to address the problems encountered in the first half of the year, the Board is confident that the Group is well positioned to continue to benefit from a buoyant commodities market. Having
assessed management’s forecast for the second half of the year, the Board is confident that the full year results will meet management expectations.”
Dr Sivi Gounden, Chief Executive Officer of Bateman Engineering, said:
“Bateman Engineering’s globalisation initiative continued to make progress in the first half of 2008 with the launch of new offices in India and China and the acquisition of Intertech in
Russia. While our established businesses performed well, we experienced a challenge with our first project in India which negatively impacted our profitability. Various steps have been
taken, including the addition of operationally focused management, to ensure a sharper focus on project execution, as well as the decision to pursue more reimbursable and hybrid projects, in order to increase the quality of our earnings. Noting the positive changes made in the first half of the year, I am confident of a significant improvement in our results for the second half of the current year.”
