J.P. Morgan buys $140.7 million in Bear Stearns stock 5:42p ET April 3, 2008 (MarketWatch) SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. said it bought 11.5 million shares of Bear Stearns shares on the open market for $140.7 million on March 24, according to filing late Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. All the purchases, which were made out of working capital, were made to "increase the likelihood that the plan to rescue Bear Stearns will be completed," J.P. Morgan said in the filing.
