Vocal ensemble to perform as part of Harding’s Classical Lyceum Series
SEARCY, Ark. – Chapter 6, an a cappella ensemble from Illinois, will perform in Harding University’s Administration Auditorium Tuesday, Jan. 29, as part of the 2007-08 Classical Lyceum Series.

Comprised of six vocalists and one arranger, Chapter 6 is the only vocal ensemble to win both the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella (2001) and National Harmony Sweepstakes (2004). Among subsequent honors, Chapter 6 has appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and received the A Cappella Community Award (2006) for “Favorite Jazz Group.”

Chapter 6 tours the United States, Canada and Asia, performing in a wide variety of venues. The family-friendly show features a blend of pop/jazz harmonies and tongue-in-cheek lyrics that are sure to bring spontaneous bursts of applause and laughter. Intimate performances feature a diverse repertoire of American popular music ranging from Gershwin to Stevie Wonder and original songs ranging from comical to personal — “Lost in Canada” and “God’s Love.” In addition, clever medleys entertain music lovers of all ages, including a six-minute version of “The Wizard of Oz,” which earned a Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award (2005).

Emerging from a college course, Chapter 6 became the premier jazz a cappella ensemble at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., before winning its first competition in 2000. When most of its members graduated the following year, the group took a leap of faith by entering the professional market in January 2002. Since then, Chapter 6 has received numerous awards for its technique, performance and original arrangements.

The group’s versatility and appeal knows no bounds. Its reputation has resulted in one of the most diverse touring schedules in the music industry. Opera houses are often repeat clients, while the APCA’s collegiate audiences named Chapter 6 “Entertainer of the Year” (2005). Chapter 6 has performed theatrical, pops programs in more than 10 metropolitan symphony orchestras in association with the Symphonic Pops Consortium, yet returns to the intimate classroom where the group has conducted more than 100 master classes for high school choirs.

Conveying its unique sound in the studio, the group’s self-distributed albums, comprised of two collegiate recordings and two professional recordings, have sold more than 35,000 copies worldwide: “A Cappella 101” (1999), “Chapter 6: Live” (2001), “ChristmasTime” (2002) and “Swing Shift” (2004). The much-anticipated live DVD, “Chapter 6 in Concert,” was released in 2005. More recently, Chapter 6 arranged and recorded jingles for XMG Corporation’s “Winning Colors Multi-Cleaner.” The group’s live show continues to evolve while two new albums are in production.

Having performed in 40 states, this ensemble has proven its wide appeal. Chapter 6 has appeared on numerous television and radio programs, including ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “The Kathy & Judy Show” on WGN Radio in Chicago.
