If I remember correctly, the credit card companies have accounts insured in case of credit defaults for a certain percentage so write offs (losses) are minimal.
However, what will most likely happen is that they'll tighten up on credit conditions and apply stricter risk prevention guidelines for new applicants trying to obtain credit (which they should have been doing anyways).
Most likely more refusals and lower credit limits will be an outcome.
