Interesting Report on Fedor Emelianenko:

REPORT: FEDOR NEVER SIGNED WITH M-1

Former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko – a man many still regard as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world – never signed a contract with M-1 Global, according to a report from Sherdog.com. Emelianenko’s only commitment to the promotion came in the form of a letter of intent and subsequent $1.5 million bonus, the report said.

Once he severs ties with M-1 Global, Emelianenko may sign with Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which could debut its MMA branch in late June, according to the report.

Undefeated in 25 fights (including one no contest), Emelianenko had been almost universally received as the world’s top heavyweight since he defeated Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at PRIDE “Final Conflict 2005” in August 2005. His public perception has taken a hit of late, as he has not tested himself against an elite heavyweight in quite some time. However, he holds a pair of victories against interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Emelianenko (27-1) last fought in December, when he secured a tapout from 7-foot-2 South Korean Hong Man Choi at “Yarennoka! New Year’s Eve! 2007.” The 31-year-old has submitted his last five opponents and has not been defeated in more than seven years. Nineteen of his 27 career victories have come in the opening round.
