What's interesting is the Fed is taking illiquid paper and making it liquid by allowing it to be collateralized with their new term auction and term lending facilities.
They are more or less allowing insolvent or severely under-capitalized firms to continue to operate much like Japan did in the 1990's.
I guess they figure this is the best option they have considering the alternatives.
