There are no leases that will have the company's name on them... Leases are all listed as the names of the private property owners who owned the mineral rights before the company land men bought them up. The operating company is who drills the wells and manages the distribution of product, etc. They have a contract with the company who pays them to do the grunt work. Just the way its done. No small oil company can keep their own drilling rig and crews anymore... you hire them and drive em hard to keep costs down. The operating company does the permitting, since they are responsible for the drilling, and handle all the environmental management nightmares, etc.
