USTT more news USA Technologies Meets the Equivalent to EPA's New Energy Standards For Vending Machines
Friday April 2, 11:30 am ET
Standard Applies to Existing, New and Refurbished Machines

MALVERN, Pa., April 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- USA Technologies, (OTC Bulletin Board: USTT - News) today applauded the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR® standard to reduce energy consumption in refrigerated vending machines as a milestone step towards improving energy efficiency throughout the industry.
Yesterday, the EPA announced that nearly 3.4 million refrigerated beverage vending machines were installed across the U.S., consuming more than 15 billion kWh/year*, and that the new specifications were expected to save up to 1,300 kWh per machine annually, when compared with non-ENERGY STAR® machines. The EPA estimated ENERGY STAR® branded vending machines could save building and business owners up to $90 per year in electricity costs per machine

USA Technologies, a world leader in developing energy management solutions for almost a decade, immediately assured vending machine manufacturers, owners and operators, it could provide solutions to help them meet the EPA's new energy requirements now and in the future. USA Technologies says it is able to immediately respond with its patented VendingMiser® technology to the EPA's recommendation that "To earn the ENERGY STAR®, refrigerated vending machines can be equipped with low power mode controls, which can place the machine in low energy lighting/refrigeration states during times of inactivity."

"No matter who the customer, or where it is located, we have energy management solutions available to respond to the EPA's new standards," said Stephen P. Herbert, President and Chief Operating Officer, USA Technologies, Inc. "Our VendingMiser® solution can reduce the energy consumed in vending machines by an average of 45 percent. It can easily be retrofitted to existing vending machines, or installed during refurbishment or in new vending machines coming off the assembly line," he said.

USA Technologies reported it had worked closely with the EPA to establish the ENERGY STAR® standard designed to promote vending machines that use less energy while providing the same or better performance than conventional designs.

Earlier today, USA Technologies, together with the National Automated Merchandising Associations (NAMA), the vending industry's national trade association, announced "Project Get Green," an incentive program, aimed at the four million refrigerated vending machines in the US marketplace that do not meet the EPA's ENERGY STAR® standard.

"USA Technologies is the industry leader with more than 100,000 EnergyMiser® products, already in service throughout America, saving approximately $104 million in energy cost annually. Orders for our growing portfolio of energy management solutions are accelerating," said Mr. Herbert.

"All Vend will back the "Get Green" Program, and in fact, some of our operators are already enjoying significant energy savings since adopting the VendingMiser® for our vending machines," said Howard Bell, President of All Vend Management Corporation. All Vend Management has developed its own energy saving program to bring the savings offered by the VendingMiser® to its global customers.

In recent months several national retail chains, as well as half a dozen US military bases located in Japan, Hawaii and mainland USA, have installed VendingMisers® on all their vending machines. Negotiations are also underway to expand the VendingMiser® installations as more businesses and institutions move towards energy conservation and as energy prices rise to their highest levels in 14 years.

"Our energy efficient products are tried and proven, reducing energy costs for our customers by an average of 45 percent. We have three patents issued and another six pending in energy management. Shortly we will be introducing more revolutionary energy management products and tools that will make commercial machinery more economical and efficient," said Mr. Herbert.
