Economy in Mideast flourishing - Qatari minister
DOHA, March 9 (KUNA) -- Qatari minister of finance Yusuf Kamal said Sunday countries in the region were witnessing economic growth coupled with high oil prices and influx of foreign investments.
Speaking at the opening of a conference on boosting economic future in the Middle East here, Kamal, also acting minister of economy and commerce, said this growth was associated with inflation.
The conference is co-organized by the Qatari foreign ministry's conferences committee and the center for the development of the Middle East in California University.
Kamal said boundaries of the countries were not restricted geographically because strategic and economic interests exceeded the borders.
Security can be realized with determination and good planning, he noted, and added that sustainable development would flourish within a secured environment and good governance.
kamal said Qatar was planning to diversify its economy by focusing on knowledge-based economy. (end) ma.
