More on Moorestown

Same link as before.

Look at the difference between the size of the die on slide 16 that shows Silverthorne and Poulsbo (part of the Menlow platform), to the die on slide 22 that shows Lincroft and Langwell (the components of the Moorestown platform).

The entire board that contains the CPU, chipset, NAND flash, DDR memory, and all I/O interfaces, fits into the size of a credit card. This is definitely iPhone material.

Note also the architecture block diagram on slide 21. Lincroft contains:

- IA core (Silverthorne core portion on 45nm)
- Memory controller
- Graphics and display interface
- Video decode
- Video encode (!!)

It seems to be a highly capable SoC.

Langwell emphasizes a special SSD drive interface, and about a half dozen other I/O blocks. I wonder what Intel is holding back....

Then there's Evan's Peak, which includes:

- WiFi and WiMax
- Bluetooth
- GPS

Now get all the radios on one chip!

Moorestown sounds like it will be just as big a radical shift towards low power and form factor than Silverthorne is. Sounds great!

I can't imagine any other x86 competitor being in the same ballpark as this technology. If it catches on, AMD or VIA would take years to catch up....
