كشف محافظ ذي قار العراقية عزيز كاظم علوان، عن توافر «احتياط كبير من النفط الخام في المحافظة يصل الى 6 بلايين برميل»، مشيراً الى جهود تبذل لتهيئة الأعمال المدنية وتخصيص الأرض اللازمة لإنشاء المدينة النفطية، التي أعلن وزير النفط العراقي حسين الشهرستاني، أنها ستكون من اكبر الحقول النفطية في العراق.
