TMEN: THERMOENERGY

In Ottawa, NRCan’s Bruce Clements, Ligang Zheng and Richard Pomalis have been working with Alex Fassbender and his patented technology. Their research and specialized analyses has culminated in a 200-page report and more favorable findings than any of them expected.

This past February, TMEN had a presentation on TIPS vs. IGCC technology in NY:

Carbon Capture: IGCC and TIPS
Speakers: Klaus Lackner, Columbia University; Alex Fassbender, ThermoEnergy Corporation
Moderator/Respondent: Michael Bobker, City College of New York, CUNY
Sponsored by: Green Science and Environmental Systems, a PS&E program
The capture and sequestration of carbon dioxide are critical enabling technologies to significantly reduce CO2 emissions while still allowing fossil fuels to meet the energy demands of today. This meeting will present a panel of experts who will describe current approaches to capturing CO2, including Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) and ThermoEnergy Integrated Power System (TIPS) technologies.

Dr. Klaus Lackner (Columbia University) will describe how IGCC, which combines two technologies -- coal Gasification and combined cycle -- offers the potential to achieve the environmental benefits typical of a gas-fired type power plant, with the thermal performance of a combined-cycle facility, yet at the lower costs associated with coal. Alex Fassbender (ThermoEnergy Corporation) will present on TIPS, a patented technology under active development. Based on reliable pressurized oxy-fuel chemistry, TIPS integrates the combustion of carbonaceous fuels with essentially complete recovery of all by-products, including acid gases, mercury, particulates and CO2, without exhaust gas treatment, and at efficiencies comparable to those of conventional large-scale combustion technologies. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions from the panel in a Q&A session following the presentations.

New zero air emission, carbon capture technology known as the ThermoEnergy Integrated Power System, or "TIPS" process. TIPS burns carbonaceous fuels, including coal, oil, natural gas or biomass, to make steam and power without air emissions. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and water produced in the combustion process are captured for sequestration or beneficial reuse. TIPS represents a totally different thermodynamic approach in power plant design that will allow greater process efficiencies and economic performance as well as eliminating greenhouse gas emissions.

Engineering Study Confirms Competitive Advantages of ThermoEnergy's Ammonia Recovery Process(R): *One of the key uses for the ARP® process in municipal wastewater treatment plants is removing a significant amount of ammonia found in the plant's internal recycle stream, called centrate or filtrate. ARP® is the core technology being utilized in the Company's planned $12.4 million ammonia removal project for the City of New York.

*CASTion has successful installations across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan. CASTion's customer base includes the military, power generation, mining, food processing, beverage, automotive, chemical process, refining, micro-electronics, municipal, heavy manufacturing, textile and semi-conductor industries. Its client list includes such Fortune 500 companies as Pfizer, Tyco, Caterpillar, Valero, Proctor & Gamble, RJ Reynolds and GE among others.
