Capt Billy what I mentioned was anchors shouldn't drift very far once settled. Was their latest find an anchor that drifted 16 miles or is it the gold bar they have listed? I also don't think cannon drift that much either unless they are near the surface, if at all.

I can see smaller objects drifting due to the constant hurricanes that hit the area though. They do find coins washed up on the beach after all.

And any objects still on or in the superstructure at the time of the breakup would probably go downwind for some time. I think Mel Fisher's son found the cannon and then a week later they found the silver reef, so he knew a wreck was nearby due to the cannon [the Atocha site].

I think you would agree though that if a ship dropped an anchor then it would be downwind/downcurrent of that anchor regardless. They could try to winch back towards the anchor if aground but if they made it then they would be off any reef perhaps and safe to leave the area.

So either it made it safely away or you would think it would be away from the anchor as you say and scattered. I have no way of knowing what happened to the ship that carried that anchor, just am pointing out what seems logical to me.
