standartization is important and will move tech ahead but it does not mean ome reader and what, it more important, resolving all codes via one service.
We can and i hope will have standards on code formats encodings and methods to keep codes unique, but codes will not have one source. Even EAN-13 or UPC , you pay fee for series but do huge business later w/o those institutions.
Standard does not mean local providers need and want share profit.
and nobody will use tech that put useless middle tier. This arwa in not drugs, groceries or food, but even they come not from one source.
