uWink Web Blog Updated Today: "Ubiquitous uWink"

The concept of ubiquitous computing - i.e. that, as time goes on, computers will be integrated into everyday objects (like tables and refrigerators) that humans will interact with using touch or voice (rather than with a mouse and a keyboard) to do everyday things - is a “big idea” in the computing world. So, it’s pretty cool that we ended up mentioned in a Businessweek article about ubiquitous computing. Check it out here.

It’s particularly interesting to us, because, at a high level, one way we think of uWink is as a ubiquitous computing company. That is to say, on a “big picture” level what we are about is creating hardware/software that allows people to intuitively tap the power of digital technology to have fun/better manage everyday tasks in environments where that wasn’t technically and/or economically feasible before - using touch to order food in a restaurant, for example, whether it be from a terminal embedded in the table or the tabletop itself (come check us out in Hollywood for more on that).

Seeing us this way, is also one way of connecting the dots between what we are doing in the restaurant/hospitality space and our new licensing/development agreement for the senior housing market. You can read the press release on that here.

What we are doing there is partnering with a very experienced real estate developer to offer intuitive one-touch technology designed to allow seniors greater independence at an affordable monthly rent. We are very proud of that.
