One thing I do not want to do is belittle the contributions of our all volunteer service. It is a sacrifice and commitment they make that I truly admire. Especially to those that enlisted in a time of war. I had looked at the Israeli deal since the 70's and often in that time span thought it would be a good idea to implement it here. My belief in that changed when my son joined the Marines in 2005. Why would I want to take that experience away from the servicemen and their families.

The reason the idea of 1 year of service intrigued me is because I have seen so many graduates that are clueless and self serving, it hit me without to much thought put into it that it might wake some of these kids up, but I can see where that would really detract from those who truly want to serve.
