Well, my story is just one piece of string. And there are many more, including the economic revival.

I'm not sure I quite agree with your final comment about the plague. I think the appearance of the plague was partly responsible for the loosening of the ties of feudalism. When labour became scarce, it also became both more mobile and more valuable. So this tends to untie the bonds of serfdom and release the survivors to do new things.

Maybe the plague contributed to the development of culture in some ways, as well as hindering it in others.
