View Additional ProfilesTORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 19, 2008) - Security Devices International, Inc. (OTCBB:SDEV) - a defense technology company specializing in less than lethal devices and ammunition solutions - today announced the successful completion of a safety testing for its patent-pending extended range Lektrox ammunition.
The first stage of tests, carried out in the summer of 2007, successfully confirmed the safety of the electric effects of SDI's wireless electric ammunition using commonly accepted parameters.
At the company's own instigation, this new round extended clinical parameters to include an entire spectrum of tests designed to study the combination of the neuro-muscular incapacitation (NMI) functionality of Lektrox wireless technology together with the kinetic energy transferred upon impact of the projectile.
Implemented over a 48 hour period, this unique form of testing followed the immediate and medium term physiological effects caused both directly by the electrical properties of the applied stimulus and the kinetic energy.
The tests, carried out under stringent objective conditions in a leading European facility, studied the entire range of physiological responses such as cardiac arrhythmia, hematological changes, thermoregulation and oxygenation abnormalities and others.
Results across all test parameters proved the Lektrox to be well within the normal safety ranges permitted under the title of less than lethal ammunition - that is ammunition that does not cause any form of long-term or irreversible physical damage.
According to SDI CEO, Sheldon Kales, these successful results will no doubt set a new bench-mark for safety testing of any electric wireless ammunition that wishes to achieve market acceptance.
"This is a very unique test and an important milestone confirming the safety of the combined effects of kinetic energy together with a delivered neurological charge," said Mr. Kales. "As another objective confirmation to the safety of our electric bullet, we believe that these results go a long way to prove the Lektrox is consistent with all the safety considerations factored into its design. We expect that this will expedite the Lektrox being widely adopted as the world's first safe and effective extended range non-lethal wireless electric ammunition solution."
