China makes breakthrough in oil exploration

This should help alleviate the production decline at the Daqing oilfield.

BEIJING, Mar.25 (Xinhuanet) -- China has discovered 40 billion tons of offshore oil and natural gas reserves.

The Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources says the reserves are concentrated in 38 depository basins in China's territorial seas.

What's more geological workers predict the Qiangtang basin in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau will prove to be rich in oil and natural gas reserves.
