Hi goin fishin,
It seems a waste of energy not to make better use of so much incandescence!

I don't really see US politics as a choice between virtues. The virtue is often in the tension between competing principles. And that point of tension oscillates from one side to another over time. After GWB, it isn't surprising that all the remaining candidates can be characterised as somewhat liberal.
