I agree with you that we should resist Satan, but not by arguing with him. Satan doesn't want to be ignored he wants you to argue with him so he can lead you into temptation. He can't lead you into temptation if you are not engaged somehow with him.

Matthew 4:1
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
