January 31, 2008

Sports entrepreneur set to lead the DFL

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Curtis Watts III has been selected by the Developmental Football League (DFL) as their first President it was announced today. The DFL begins its inaugural season of play this year and Watts will oversee all aspects of operations.

Watts brings his expert level of leadership and management experience of over 20 plus years of United States Marine Corps, Diplomatic Corps, and corporate experience as the creative force behind several other sports-related ventures.

"In my capacity as the President of the DFL, I expect to develop and execute a deliberate and focused new plan and am extremely excited for the opportunity to be involved with the DFL,” Watts said. “We are forging a new opportunity to provide young players a chance to continue their development as athletes and play football. We are energized with the response from the players and the coaches, and their involvement with the DFL. I look forward to sharing the specific plan, a road map if you will, to the operations and directions of this inaugural season.”

Watts is one of the original founding members of the parent company of the DFL, American Football Alumni where he remains the President. He also led the design and implementation of the online social networking community, 11on11.com and has provided guidance and consultations in the creation and formation of the World Soccer Society for the CoMedia Corporation.

A former US Diplomat, Watt’s last posting overseas was as the United States Consul in Tashkent Uzbekistan. His other diplomatic assignments include service at the embassies in Afghanistan, Egypt, India, Morocco, Japan and South Korea.

Previously, he was entrusted to manage the accommodations and site logistics on behalf of the President of the United States and the White House. He was awarded the Superior Honor Award by the Department of State for his efforts.

He annually volunteers each year to provide leadership and conflict resolution training to young men and women selected to attend the J. C. and Frankie Watts Foundation Full Impact Leadership Academy (FILA). He also holds a position on the Board of Directors for the J. C. and Frankie Watts Foundation.

Watts has just completed a book entitled “Leadership for Youth.” The book is an individual discovery manual that teaches better understanding of situational leadership, conflict resolution, communication skills, and ethics and values.

He attended Iowa State University and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. Watts lives in San Diego, California with his wife and two children.
