A. Ines Rooney, Reggaeton's Most Powerful Woman


A. Ines Rooney helped turn producing duo Luny Tunes into music moguls. And she can sing, too.

If Daddy Yankee wants something from A. Ines Rooney, he just might have to beg for it. And that´s exactly what he did (on his knees!) after hearing "Mírame," a song that Ines, CEO of Más Flow Records, had written for the label´s latest compilation CD. "I told him he could have it on two conditions—that he agree not to denigrate women in it and to shout me out," says the dominicana executive, sister of the Luny half of reggaeton producing duo (and Más Flow owners) Luny Tunes. Yankee obeyed both commands, shouting out the "nena de ojos brujos" in the song. Ines, a former financial analyst, went from doing the company´s accounting and finances as a favor to taking over the multimillion dollar empire. She oversees eight producers, and under her creative direction Más Flow 2 has sold more than 700,000 copies, according to Ines. In a genre notorious for old-school handshake deals, Ines, 31, taught Luny Tunes the importance of securing publishing rights for their songs, hiring a lawyer and working under contracts. If running the label weren´t enough, Ines—who shuttles between New York and Puerto Rico—is also a singer. She most recently appeared under the name Deevani on Tito El Bambino´s hit song, "Flow Natural." "Professionally, I´ve done what I set out to do," says the mother of three, who speaks 11 languages, including Japanese and Hindi. "Now I want to hear myself on the radio."
