Scanbuy (Ezcode), Beetag, OP3 (Shotcode), Nextcode (mcode) use proprietary 2d code. The reason why Nextcode decided to create MCODE is because outside of Asia (Japan/Korea), there is not a macro mode and autofocus in most camera phones.

Is that the same reason why Scanbuy has decided to use Ezcode instead of using QR or Datamatrix. We know that Scanbuy's Scanlife can read 2d open standard barcodes (Datamatrix and QR).

What is needed for mass adoption?
* 2d Open standard barcodes - Direct encoding
* Indirect encoding???? (I don't see how it is possible)

Most people are not really familiar to download applications to their phones. Furthermore, I don't think people will install 4 or 5 barcode readers on their phones.
For example, if I installed Kaywa reader on my phone, I would only able to read 2d open standard barcodes (QR, Datamatrix).
