BaDog, when someone replies to your post, it shows up on your personal message "mail" as a new message. The number of messages you have would (or actually did) increase by two. Then when you read the replies (or those replies were deleted) the message count went down by two. So your personal mail count goes up and down as post replies are read. Maybe this helps to answer you puzzle.
