Swift Transportation warns on March quarter (SWFT) By Mark Cotton NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Swift Transportation (SWFT) slumped 13.5 percent to $16.90 after it said late Monday that earnings for the quarter ended March 31 2004 will be "significantly less" that the 19 cents a share, which it believed to be the mean estimate of the thirteen analysts currently following the company. According to 14 analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call, the average estimate is for earnings of 18 cents a share on revenue of $623.5 million. The Phoenix-based company said it also expects to fall significantly below its goal to reduce its operating ratio by 3 percent this year due to adverse weather, early retirement charges, lack of driver availability and higher fuel costs.
